I'll have to re-shoot this on a day when the crew is working and the crane is swung over to the left. Of course, I'll probably never get nice clouds like this again. Click on the image for a medium resolution view. High resolution version here.
Signature Properties has scheduled ground excavation of the 288 Third site, formerly called 300 Harrison, to begin this Wednesday, May 18th, and will last through Wednesday, May 25th. We estimate that 100 to 120 trucks will offhaul soil from this site between the hours of 7AM and 4PM each day (approximately 15 trucks per hour).

Greetings !
As most of you are aware, Pulte Homes is in the process of constructing housing between 4th and 5th Streets, on Alice Street.
We are excited that we will be pouring our building foundation on Monday and Tuesday of next week, May 16th and 17th. While this is great news for our progress, we realize that the process of pouring this foundation will inconvenience some of you for these 2 days.
As a token of our appreciation for your patience, Pulte Homes has made arrangements with the Cuckoo's Nest restaurant across the street on 4th Street to provide coffee and bagels or other goodies on Monday and Tuesday. These complimentary refreshments will be available from 6:30am to 10:30am on both days, on the patio in front. We invite you to stop by, watch some of the activity, and be able to ask some questions if you like on Monday morning.

I'm sure most of you already know this, but here's the schedule for the upcoming concrete pour at the construction site across the street.
I for one am looking forward to it. Should make an interesting time-lapse! :-)
I haven't made a post for a while - but then, neither has anyone else. :-( Thought I'd get out on this lovely day and take a picture or two.
Looks like they're drilling instead of pile-driving on the construction site across the street. That's nice. Wonder how they decide whether or not pile-driving is required on a given job site.
I'm looking forward to seeing Eric Cheng's time-lapse of the construction site.
I remember a few years ago when some of our neighbors strongly opposed the construction of a large building proposed by Reynolds and Brown at 300 Harrison Street. I remember being the one and only person who was actually excited by the proposed building's beautiful concrete and steel design. I thought it would have been an awesone addition to the neighborhood - heck, it might have even been a cool place to live. Instead, we fought the beautiful building with all our might, and promptly ran out of steam. This made it easy for the next developer - SNK - to come in and build some of the ugliest buildings ever.
I'm not sure yet whether or not the new development at 300 Harrison will be ugly, but it sure isn't the cool building proposed by Reynolds and Brown.
The attached notice was posted today to warn contractors/ construction workers to stop planned efforts to construct a door in the first floor hallway. The notice has been posted. This issue will be an agenda discussion at the board meeting of November 15, 2004. If you see workers on the first floor, call Collins Management.

Hello Neighbors,
The City of Oakland posted signs today advertising that demolition of 426 Alice Street will begin as soon as October 14th.
From Gary Knecht and SoNiC...
Signature Properties has just purchased the vacant lot at 300 Harrison (north side of 3rd Street between Harrison and Alice) at the heart of the Waterfront Warehouse District. They are planning to construct a 91-unit condominium project on the lot, starting early next year (2005). The site has already been approved for 91 condos, so there will be no further public review of the project (unless significant changes from the approved project are proposed).
Signature Properties' Mike Ghielmetti has offered to meet with SoNiC and show us drawings of the proposed building. Although there will be the same number of units (91) and the same number of off-street parking stalls (117), the building will be a few feet shorter (about 65' rather than 68') and there will be no need for pile-driving.
Please come to the Egghouse to meet our new neighbor:
WHEN: Tuesday, July 13, 2004 from 6:30 to 7:30 (or 8:00)
WHERE: The Egghouse, 229 Harrison (southwest corner of 3rd) -- dial 30 for entry
WHO: Mike Ghielmetti, Signature Properties
Please RSVP so we can make sure there are enough seats for everyone.
Thanks,
Gary

I apologize for the late notice but I just learned of tonight's meeting...
There is an EIR Scoping Meeting tonight at 6:30pm at the Jack London Aquatic Center, 111 Embarcadero East in Oakland. It will be a Community Meeting to discuss the plans for 3100 residential townhomes on 62 acres of Port of Oakland land. There is a bill in the California Legislature now for the Port of Oakland to trade that land for some other land (unknown where).
I'm sending this to various folks here in the Jack London District. If you have a way of passing this on to others in your building/office, please do so. There is a lot going on in the JLD!
This from Gary Knecht at SoNiC:
