Monday HOA Meeting Cancelled

Due to lack of interest, there will be no meeting Monday. Actually, that's not true. There's no meeting because both John Hagar and Jack Allen have prior commitments. Something about Christmas - or something.

New Elevator Lock, Keys

Our elevator access lock will be changed Friday 16 December 2005. On that day only the new keys will work to take you to the garage.

Two new keys have been mailed to loft owners by Collins Management.

If you are a renter, you need to contact your landlord.

If you are an owner and haven't received your keys, contact Dan Stone at Collins Management. If you want more than two keys, contact Dan. Each replacement keys cost $5 including postage.

Dan Stone's contact number is 510 262-1795.

Hallway Renovation - Phase One - Floor Two

I have been looking at the same faded images as I step off the the second floor elevator for more than ten years. It's w-a-y past time for a change. Thanks to our fabulous board, I was finally able to do something about it. So, one gallon of paint and one large photograph later and, well - you be the judge.

I encourage you to stop the elevator on the second floor and have a look! Please notice that the panoramic image is hung in such a way that it need not be permanent. This installation is meant to be temporary! Also note that all aspects of the current lighting scheme are open for discussion. I have better-looking fixtures on order. The lights can be moved and removed. What do you think?

By the way, if you have ideas for the third or fourth floors, I'd like to hear about it! I have some ideas and some colors in mind, but I'd love to get other opinions.

Is There Fiber in Your Future?

You may not like the development going on all around us, but along with the traffic and the noise will come some very cool things. It turns out that the Pulte development at 428 Alice is going to have a fiber connection to the Internet. A fiber optic cable is capable of enormous bandwidth. Speeds of a gigabit per second or more are possible, and these days the costs are amazingly low.

I met two weeks ago with a representative from Paxio - the folks who will bring the fiber in to the neighborhood. They assured me that when the fiber is laid to 428 Alice that they'd also run the fiber to our building. I will most likely subscribe to a 100 megabit line. This will give us download speeds about 15 times faster than what we currently have, and upload speeds an amazing 130 times faster! If you are not already on my network, you may want to give it some serious consideration for next year.

The fiber should be installed in the January - March timeframe. I'll post more details as things progress.
