Connecting to Our Building's LDAP Server
A few more of you have expressed interest in connecting to our global address book. Below are a few steps that should get you going. If you are still confused, please come to the next H.O.A. meeting. I'll be there to demonstrate this and a few other great things that are available on our network.
-Jim Pire
The following instructions are for Windows. I know that Mac mail clients are capable of using LDAP servers. Perhaps one of our resident Mac users can post instructions...
- Launch Outlook Express. (There is a way to do this with Outlook and with Thunderbird as well, but start here.)
- Select Tools --> Accounts --> Add --> Directory Service.
- Enter "fourthstreetlofts.com" as the Internet Directory Server Name.
- Select "Yes" on the Check E-mail Addresses screen. (This will cause Outlook Express to use this on-line address book when searching for matches.)
- Select Finish.
- Now, modify the Properties of the newly-created ldap account so that it looks like this:

(The only change necessary is to add) the "ou=lofts,dc=thedude,dc=com" part.
- Select Close.
- You may now use Start --> Search --> For People and select the new ldap server under "Look in:"
- Enter a partial name, like "jim" and hit enter.
Cool, eh?
