I have yet to view all of the signs on all of the trash cans in our historic neighborhood. Of course, now that we have this nifty blog thingie, I can drag all of my neighbors along with me as I finally take the tour!
Let's begin with the can in front of our building, shall we?

Excellent. This looks great on the blog, dude. These really tell the history of the individual buildings in the district. Current local residents Marianne Dreisback, Gary Knecht, and I; and former neighborhood residents Wilda White, Jane Lawhon and Peter Birkholz were the committee that researched the history of our local buildings and applied for the National Historic designation for the neighborhood. Architect Peter Birkholz was the person largely responsible for designing and building the trash cans although all the above (and former neighborhood resident John Dalel) gave input and helped at one time or another. This was a long project involving many meetings and included getting funding from the City. It was one of the earliest and most visible signs of this neighborhood's grassroots organization.

Awesome. Do you know of any way that I might be able to get these files in some digital format?

This is great... the more I think about it, the more I think that it would be cool and respectful to repaint the old graphics back onto the building. Maybe the city can even be hit for part of the cost, as it restores part of the historic feel of the ol'hood (a la "American Bag" etc)and is very visable to anyone driving past on the freeway.
