Neighborhood News from Joanna Adler
I'm sending this to various folks here in the Jack London District. If you have a way of passing this on to others in your building/office, please do so. There is a lot going on in the JLD!
There is an article in today's Oakland Tribune highlighting the on-street parking issues we face here in the Jack London District. On June 1, City Council voted to put 4-hour parking signs throughout the District, without a coordinating permit plan. Not good if you currently park on the street during the workday!

There is a EIR scoping meeting tonight at the Jack London Aquatic Center for the Oak to 9th project. 3100 residential townhomes are slated for the Port owned 62 acres. There is a bill in legislature right now for the port to trade that land for some other land (unknown where). Something else to think about...
The City Council meeting on June 15th will be THE LAST CHANCE to say anything about the Jack London Square Partners Redevelopment Plan. Specific issues that are of major concern are:
- Final development plan is being approved for all 9 buildings, including the parking garage - which is a big problem considering that even the architects acknowledge that it should be improved.
- Conditional use permits for fast food are not being required - which is required EVERYWHERE else in the City of Oakland. Why do these developers get something so out of the ordinary?
- A mini-committee for design review is being created for any changes that come up - shouldn't the Public be allowed on that committee?
- Parking mitigations still need clarification. We do not want them using what little on-street parking we have to cover their shortfalls.
The meeting is held at City Hall (14th & Broadway) and starts at 7pm June 15th.
As always, http://www.jacklondondistrict.org and http://www.jacklondonnews.com can provide a starting
point if you are looking for local news and information!
